Day of the town of Vukovar PDF Print E-mail
Back in 1231, on May 3 Vukovar received the title of a free royal town. Trade along the Danube flourished and the area was densly populated. Catholic monks managed the religious, academic and cultural life of the town. May 3 is also the day when Christians celebrate the saints Philip and Jacob, which is why they became patron saints of the town. The construction of the St. Philip and Jacob church in Vukovar started in 1723.

Empowering the Community Successfully Finished PDF Print E-mail

The second Vukovar Empowering the Community Training finished successfully. We are proud of our participants for implementing all of their groups' projects.

The summer school hosted participants from nine countries, who during the three weeks of the training learned about Vukovar's past and present. The participants developed four innovative projects for the development of the city of Vukovar. They presented these projects at a media conference in the city hall. During the last three days of the training they implemented the envisaged projects in Vukovar.

The summer school and the projects were supported by the city of Vukovar and Vukovar NGOs, the Vukovar tourist board and the Tourist board of the Vukovar-Srijem county.

EMPOWERING THE COMMUNITY IN VUKOVAR

JULY 6 - JULY 25 2009

PushLAB, Croatia and Global PACT, USA invite you to participate in a three week, team-based immersion course in Vukovar, Croatia. The active learning course will put students for the third year in a row in the position of NGO organizers seeking to resolve critical social problems and to analyze and engage the economic, political, and social environment in which a community exists. In small teams, students will initiate and develop projects that create positive change in the town of Vukovar. The course will take you through this process step-by-step from issue identification to practicing (and holding!) a live press conference.

Download the application form. Application deadline is June 25 2009.
